Hi,
I love your website and I would love to know how to draw maps such as these on the computer – but am having no such luck in attempts to research this. I understand it may take some practice to draw such lovely maps as you have here, but could you point me in the right direction? What software do I need, and how do I do this?
Hi Jason,
most people contact me either because they would like to publish their maps on my blog – or to ask how I (and other mapmakers) draw maps on the computer. I like both reasons for contacting me. Unfortunately, there is no answer to the “How to” question on my blog yet. But because so many people ask for it, I will start working on a tutorial section a.s.a.p.
I use Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape (free and open source) to draw the maps. It was quite complicated to find out the best way to draw maps with these normal vector drawing programs (I don’t even know if I do it the best way). So it’s not easy to explain. But I will try my very best to create a tutorial – step by step.
In the meantime: What is most important for you to know? Any map feature you’re not able to draw with the techniques you know? Please tell me, I’ll try to explain.
